Playing for Kochi Blue Tigers, he scored a sensational 121 runs off just 42 balls his first big score in this league. Coming into the match after a somewhat disappointing outing earlier, Samson made sure to leave a mark. His explosive knock included 14 fours and seven sixes, showcasing his power hitting prowess before falling short of a triple figure.
Despite his dismissal, his team powered through, winning by four wickets. Notably, Mohammad Ashik finished unbeaten on 45 off 18 balls, sealing the victory with a last ball finish.
In the eighth fixture of the league, Samson was entrusted with opening the batting. Chased with a target of 237, his team needed a strong start, and Samson delivered in style.
Alongside Vinu Manoharan, the duo put on a commanding 64 runs in just over four overs, with Samson reaching his half century in only 16 balls a rapid fire display of aggression. Vinu, however, fell for 11 off nine balls.
The momentum continued as Samson joined his brother in law, Shanu, and the duo added 89 runs for the second wicket, crossing the 150 mark with ease. Shanu scored a quick 39 off 28 balls, including six fours and a six, before falling.
With the game hanging in balance, Samson was on the brink of a historic century, reaching his milestone after 47 balls. His brother in law, however, was dismissed for five, but Samson’s steady batting kept the team on course.
Mohammad Ashik then stepped in, unleashing an attacking cameo with three fours and five sixes, guiding the team comfortably past the target.However, questions are being raised about Samson’s place in the Indian team’s playing XI ahead of the Asia Cup.
Dspite earning a spot in the squad, there’s speculation about his role. With Shubman Gill’s return, there’s talk that Samson might have to shift from opening to the middle order a position he had recently played in the Kerala League.
Rumors suggest that perhaps he has been given a subtle message or hint about his future role, stirring discussions among fans and selectors alike.
