Once hailed as the rising stars of IPL 2025, Priyansh Arya, Dighvesh Rathi, and Suyash Sharma failed to live up to their promise in the Delhi Premier League (DPL).
The excitement and anticipation surrounding their performances in India’s biggest cricketing extravaganza now seem distant, as these stars grapple with disappointing outings in the DPL.
IPL 2025 had painted a different picture for Arya and Rathi the surprise packages of the season. Arya’s explosive batting, smashing 475 runs in just 17 matches against some of the world’s most formidable bowlers, had caught everyone’s eye.
Rathi, on the other hand, had drawn attention with his all round skills, claiming 14 wickets in 13 games and even smashing six sixes in six balls during the league’s inaugural season. Expectations were sky high for both in the second edition, with hopes of even greater exploits.
However, their DPL journey has been nothing short of a letdown. Arya, who had dazzled in IPL with Punjab Kings and helped his team reach the finals, has struggled to replicate that form in DPL.
His team, Out Delhi Warriors, suffered a heavy blow, losing six matches and crashing out early. Arya’s 9 games yielded just 303 runs, with a single century (111) a stark contrast to his previous form. The once feared big hitter now finds himself struggling for consistency.
Rathi’s performance has been equally disheartening. Once known for his aggressive batting and wicket taking ability, his DPL stats tell a different story. In six matches, he managed only two wickets, with a best of 2/36.
His average stands at a lofty 78.5, and he has frequently failed to make an impact, claiming just two wickets across all appearances. The signature celebration that once made him a fan favorite the one where he marked his wickets with style has been noticeably absent this season. Instead, he’s been left yearning for breakthroughs, struggling to find rhythm in a tournament where wickets have been hard to come by.
Suyash Sharma, despite his IPL experience, also faltered. The young spinner, who had a promising start, managed just nine wickets in 8 matches, with an economy rate of 7.8. His best figures of 4/17 provided glimpses of his potential, but inconsistency has plagued him. The team’s reliance on these stars seemed to backfire, as Out Delhi Warriors faced early elimination after six losses.
The fallout has not gone unnoticed. Shivam Sharma, the senior allrounder, openly acknowledged the heavy dependence on Arya and Suyash, admitting that their struggles played a significant role in the team’s downfall. The collective disappointment is palpable among fans, who hoped to see their heroes shine once again but are now left pondering whether these IPL stars are mere “one-season wonders.”
The absence of fireworks and celebration especially from Rathi, whose signature style once electrified fans underscores the harsh reality. The question now looms large: Will these talented players bounce back and reclaim their form at the highest level? Or will they fade into the shadows, their brief flashes of brilliance remembered only as fleeting moments?
As the DPL concludes with disappointment for some of the game’s brightest stars, the cricketing world watches with bated breath. The journey from IPL glory to DPL despair is a tough one, and for Arya, Rathi, and Sharma, the road to redemption has just begun.
